As a Dutch person I’d like to say that this is a very good article. Though not only we celebrate Sinter Klaas on the 5th/6th.
Most of Europe does so and sometimes the date varies. (Palestine: 19th) The Americans have placed the date to December 24th/25th. Also not only Sinter Klaas is the inspiration for the American Santa. Pretty sure your British ancestors added Father Christmas and some other Sint Nick versions in there too. Everything ultimately comes back to Wotan or Odin for you guys. 🙂

I love that story about the African woman…yes, i also have probs telling my daughter about santa as i hate lying to her and giving into the group mind. However i can see it as a pathway for her to hopefully be able to also see Jesus and God as superstition when she gets older.

in Japan they say we can be lived-through by others, the absent carpenter for example, is lived-through by us when we use stairs they had made so long ago; when a buddhist monk ‘thanks’ the stairs, they are not being mystical, they are being quite literal.

Nicholas of Myra lives, and he can visit all those many in a single night, and yes, it is magic 🙂

You’re not part of a legend, you’re part of a conspiracy.

I believe in legends. Legends are about the posibility of things existing. Perhaps ghosts exist, perhaps Bigfoot exists, perhaps there is an afterlife. But do you think that there could be a Santa Claus? No.

A lie is when you know full well that such a being absolutely does not exist, and you tell your son or daughter (who 100% trusts you) that he does.

No wonder people compare God to Santa Claus or the Tooth fairy. Are we really nurturing a sense of magic and wonder in people only to turn them into sceptics when they grow older?
